Lakeland Community Hospital has undergone a three-year, $20 million transformation to enhance services to southwest Michigan with high quality, full-service healthcare. Located on the banks of the St. Joseph River, the 109-bed community hospital serves Niles and the surrounding communities with primary and specialty care services in a modern and healing environment.

The newly renovated emergency department at Lakeland Hospital is an 21-bed, 23,000 annual volume facility. There is 24 hours of physician coverage daily with an additional ten hours of midlevel coverage. The ED has 24 hours of physician coverage daily, with 12-hour shifts. There is an additional 12–16 hours of midlevel coverage daily. Clinicians utilize the EMR EPIC®.


Niles, Michigan is located in the southwestern corner of the state and boasts a history dating back more than 300 years. Known as “The City of Four Flags”, Niles was once controlled by four different nations! This history is evident not only in the city’s pride but also in the neighborhoods, museums, downtown, and antique shops. The Niles area is served by several different school districts, which provide quality education. Private and parochial schools provide alternatives to public education. Niles offers residents and visitors many types of indoor and outdoor recreation activities. Opportunities for fishing, hunting, canoeing, hiking, and cross-country skiing abound.
